The leaves, measuring between 7 and 15 cm long, have a fresh scent, reminiscent of citronella. Lemon eucalyptus blooms between October and January, with cream-colored flowers.

  • INCI name: Eucalyptus citriodora leaf oil
  • Botanical name: Eucalyptus citriodora
  • Plant part extracted: Leaves
  • Extraction process: Steam distillation

Cultivation & Origin

Lemon eucalyptus primarily originates from Australia and certain regions of Africa, notably the island of Madagascar. When harvesting for the extraction of organic lemon eucalyptus essential oil, the trunk is cut at 3-4 m high, before collecting the leaves located at the ends of the branches to prepare them for distillation. If new shoots appear below the cut, a second harvest can be carried out. Approximately 80kg of leaves are needed to produce 1kg of essential oil.
