Essential oil - Black Spruce

STRESS & FATIGUE     PROBLEM & OILY SKIN     NATURAL DEFENSES

Black spruce is known by different names depending on the region where it grows: épinette noire or sapinette noire. It is a species of conifer belonging to the Pinaceae family, which grows mainly in the northern United States, Europe, and Canada. It is very resistant to cold climates!

Planted in a region where conditions are suitable for its growth, black spruce can reach a height of 20 meters. However, in areas where the climate is more or less harsh, it does not grow properly and becomes bushy and stunted. In these circumstances, it only reaches 6 to 8 meters in height.

Black spruce is notably recognized by its pyramidal appearance, rough branches, and scaly bark. The top is small, dotted with small purplish-red fruits that turn light brown over time.

  • INCI Name: Picea mariana leaf oil
  • Botanical Name: Picea mariana
  • Part of the plant extracted: Needles and twigs
  • Extraction process: Steam distillation

Cultivation & Origin

Spruce has long been known for its health benefits. This plant grows particularly well on limestone soils and prefers high-altitude regions.
In Canada, black spruce is used for the manufacture of paper pulp, but also for making different types of frameworks because the wood of the tree is robust and resistant.

Organic black spruce essential oil is obtained by distilling the needles. With 1 kg of needles, 10 ml of natural essence can be extracted.
