The citrus reticulata is a small shrub that can reach 6 meters when planted in the ground. In a pot, its height will be limited to about 2 meters. The mandarin tree has rather thin, branched branches with small thorns. Its leaves are long and can reach 10 cm in length. The mandarin tree produces very fragrant flowers, which appear in spring and then give the fruits that will be used to make the essential oil. These ripen in autumn, until the end of the year.

Cultivation & Origin

Most cardamom is grown in India, Sri Lanka, and Guatemala. It is the third most expensive spice in the world after saffron and vanilla, which explains the sometimes high cost of this essential oil, classified among the most precious essential oils.

Traditionally, cardamom is used as a culinary spice. It is found in some popular mixtures such as masala, for example. Cardamom is also used as an addition to confectionery in some Nordic countries, in teas or coffees to provide an original and slightly spicy flavor.
