Essential oil - Organic Ceylon Cinnamon

STRESS & FATIGUE     DRY & SENSITIVE SKIN

Cinnamon from Ceylon comes from Sri Lanka. It is therefore different from Chinese cinnamon, which produces an essential oil with similar properties but a very different biochemical composition.

Cinnamon from Ceylon is produced from the bark of the tree, which can reach 15 meters in height. The tree belongs to the Lauraceae family, and has evergreen foliage with flowers that produce small berries used as a culinary spice for oriental dishes or tea- and rooibos-based drinks.

While Ceylon cinnamon primarily grows in Sri Lanka, it can also be found in other tropical countries.

Cultivation & Origin

Cinnamon, which we use as a culinary spice, has been used since antiquity. Its medicinal properties have indeed been known for several thousand years, notably by the Egyptians who used it to embalm mummies. Cinnamon was also used as a spice, and as a religious element as early as 1600 BC! Later, the famous physician Hippocrates praised its benefits.

Today, Ceylon cinnamon is used as a culinary spice, as incense, or as a perfume. The essential oil is produced by distilling the flowers of the cinnamon tree. The main difference between Ceylon cinnamon essential oil and Chinese cinnamon essential oil lies in their composition. The Chinese variety contains a lot of coumarin, while the Ceylon variety contains very little, which makes it an essential oil that is generally better tolerated and less toxic for the liver when taken internally under medical advice.
