Essential oil - Organic exotic basil

STRESS & FATIGUE     DAILY ACHES     DIGESTION

A small shrub 30 to 50 cm tall, exotic basil, also called tropical basil, is one of the 100 different species of basil found around the world.

Exotic basil thrives in warm climates. It is mainly found around the Mediterranean area, as well as on the island of Madagascar.

Exotic basil differs from other types of basil, such as camphor basil or holy basil, by its fresh, herbaceous, slightly aniseed scent.

Organic exotic basil essential oil is obtained by distilling the leaves. Approximately 100 kg of plant are needed to produce 100 g of essential oil.

  • INCI name: Ocimum Basilicum Oil
  • Botanical name: Ocimum basilicum
  • Part of the plant extracted: Leaves
  • Extraction method: Steam distillation of the leaves

Cultivation & Origin

Known since antiquity, basil is mainly used in culinary applications as well as for its medicinal and ornamental properties, especially in Italy where it is found in many gardens.

Traditionally, it was used as a natural active ingredient to combat coughs and ENT disorders such as colds or ear infections. In Ayurvedic medicine, basil is used to treat various skin problems such as acne, but also as an insect repellent. In cooking, tropical basil essential oil can be used to make aromatic oils, to season pasta dishes or Mediterranean vegetables. It also goes wonderfully with seafood!

Health Properties

Promotes digestive comfort:

  • Antispasmodic, organic exotic basil essential oil is mainly recommended for facilitating digestion and promoting toxin elimination. To be taken as a short course of a few days, preferably under medical advice, it helps to soothe many digestive disorders such as bloating, spasms, indigestion, gastric problems, and painful periods.

It will also be useful for relieving nausea, such as that related to motion sickness, and for helping to regain daily comfort.

Fights inflammation :

  • Exotic basil essential oil contains many molecules, including eugenol and linalool, which have powerful anti-inflammatory activity.

It is therefore recommended for topical application, diluted in a vegetable oil, on sensitive areas of the body to naturally regain well-being and soothe joint or muscle tension.

Calms stress and anxiety :

  • A nervous system balancer, organic exotic basil essential oil is also recommended to combat digestive disorders linked to stress and anxiety. Diffused in the air or inhaled, it will help to soothe anxiety attacks and fight against the appearance of nervous spasms thanks to its antispasmodic benefits.

Exotic basil essential oil can also be used topically, diluted in a vegetable oil alone or in combination with other essential oils, massaged on the solar plexus to regain well-being and serenity during difficult periods. Mentally, exotic basil essential oil promotes enthusiasm and action.

Helps eliminate viruses and bacteria :

  • Versatile, organic exotic basil essential oil also has important antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties thanks to its methyl chavicol concentration. It can thus be used as support in cases of bacterial infections, especially digestive ones, to promote the eradication of viruses and bacteria and to strengthen natural defenses. Its richness in cineole also makes it an excellent ally to help eliminate mucus and stimulate expectoration.

Cosmetic Properties

Tones tired skin and adds radiance :

  • The stimulating benefits of organic basil essential oil are also found in cosmetics, for caring for tired skin lacking radiance.

It will then be recommended diluted in a vegetable oil, or incorporated into homemade cosmetic products (toning lotions or masks) to revitalize the skin and give it radiance, especially during winter or in times of stress. It will also be praised by mature skin thanks to its richness in antioxidants, which will help fight against skin aging.

Purifies skin and scalp :

  • Antibacterial and antifungal, organic exotic basil essential oil will also be an ally for combination to oily skin. Integrated into skincare creams, it helps to naturally balance sebum production and fight against the appearance of imperfections.

Applied to the scalp as an oil bath or incorporated into invigorating hair care products, organic exotic basil essential oil stimulates hair growth and slows down hair loss, and helps fight against dandruff and itching.

Usage Tips

Organic exotic basil essential oil is soluble in alcohol, vegetable oils and butters, and emulsions.

Antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory, it is mainly used for its benefits on the digestive system, particularly to facilitate digestion and to combat gastric or intestinal disorders.

It will also be a good ally to combat stress, to limit inflammation, and to regain comfort in cases of bodily, muscular, or joint tension.

In cosmetics, its revitalizing and purifying benefits are appreciated, which will delight tired, dull, or lackluster skin!

Organic exotic basil essential oil can be used alone or in combination with other essential oils to enhance its various properties. It can thus be combined with cinnamon, lemon, or peppermint, as well as petitgrain bigarade or ylang-ylang to complement its relaxing and soothing virtues on the nervous system.
