Spike Lavender gets its name from the vipers often hidden at its roots. Also called wild lavender, it is a cousin of true lavender. It differs from the latter by its purple flowers arranged in loose spikes at the top of long stems. This plant grows abundantly in the wild throughout the Mediterranean basin, and more particularly in Spain and the south of France.
Organic Spike Lavender essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the flowering tops of Lavandula latifolia. Its scent is then very strong and less sweet than true lavender essential oil.
