Culture & Origin

It thrives in humid areas, which is why it can also be found in Thailand, Vietnam, as well as the Caribbean and Costa Rica. The distillation of ylang-ylang flowers began in the Philippine Islands in the 1860s. A single tree can produce approximately 3 to 4 kg of flowers per harvest. Also known as Cananga oil, ylang-ylang essential oil is primarily used in perfumery. Its characteristic, powerful, floral, spicy, and slightly camphorated scent is found in the composition of many luxury perfumes designed by Chanel, Givenchy, and Guerlain. In Asia, ylang-ylang can also be used as a culinary flavor, especially in beverages and confectionery.
