NATURAL DEFENSES TONUS & BALANCE DISINFECTION
A bushy tree native to Madagascar, saro or Cinnamosma fragans is a very aromatic plant, with evergreen foliage and beautiful dark green leaves that are notably used to produce saro essential oil. The plant produces flowers, which then give the saro fruits.
Saro thrives in a dry climate, which is why it is mainly found in the dry forests in the northwest of the island.

Cultivation & Origin
Close to ravintsara, saro shares many of its properties. In the past, saro was used to soothe infectious disorders. Its roots were used in decoction to relieve abscesses, coughs, or as a treatment for malaria. Saro leaves, while used today for essential oil, were also consumed as a traditional tea given to warriors during traditional fights in Madagascar.
Today, saro is mainly known for its essential oil, obtained by distilling the plant's leaves.
Health Properties
Helps fight viruses and bacteria:
-
Like ravintsara essential oil, organic saro essential oil is particularly recommended in winter to help fight viruses and bacteria. It contains beta-pinene and cineole, molecules with antibacterial and antiviral action. Saro essential oil can therefore be recommended for diffusion, to help sanitize the ambient air, or for massage on the affected areas, previously diluted in a vegetable oil.
Note that saro essential oil also stimulates natural defenses, which is why it is an essential essential oil in winter aromatherapy, just like eucalyptus or niaouli essential oil, for example!
Helps restore comfort in case of all types of infections:
-
Antibacterial and antiviral, saro essential oil is also anti-infectious. It acts on many germs responsible for the appearance of all types of infections: urinary, pulmonary, or intestinal. Depending on the problem, it can be combined with other essential oils with similar or complementary properties to benefit from a more powerful synergy. To regain comfort in case of a urinary infection, for example, you can dilute saro essential oil in a vegetable oil before applying it by massaging the lower abdomen.
Promotes respiratory well-being:
-
Expectorant and anti-catarrhal, organic saro essential oil offers a beneficial action in case of respiratory infections such as bronchitis, flu, or colds. Recommended as a support, it helps to thin secretions and promote their expulsion to quickly regain comfort. For this use, it can be recommended for massage on the upper back or the arch of the foot, previously diluted in a vegetable oil until improvement. It can also be applied to the sinuses in case of nasal congestion.
Naturally stimulates the body and fights feelings of fatigue:
-
Diffused in the air or applied to the skin over the solar plexus, previously diluted in a vegetable oil, saro essential oil helps to regain tone and vitality in case of feelings of fatigue, stress, or anxiety attacks. It has neurotonic and antispasmodic properties that help restore your balance.
Cosmetic Properties
Purifies combination to oily skin and tightens pores:
-
In cosmetics, organic saro essential oil is recommended for caring for combination to oily skin. It offers an astringent action on the skin, ideal for helping to tighten pores and thus fight against the appearance of imperfections (acne, pimples, blackheads...).
For this use, it can be incorporated into recipes for moisturizing creams or purifying masks, or applied to the affected areas, previously diluted in a non-comedogenic vegetable oil, alone or in combination with other essential oils with complementary virtues.
Facilitates skin regeneration:
-
Saro essential oil can also be recommended for mature skin or on the body to help reduce the appearance of stretch marks or scars. Regenerating, it naturally facilitates skin healing and helps cell renewal. It is therefore recommended as a facial treatment to prevent and slow down the signs of skin aging, especially when combined with other essential oils such as rose geranium, for example.
Usage Tips
Antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial, organic saro essential oil, just like eucalyptus or ravintsara essential oil, will be ideal for use in winter. It indeed has many properties to both help fight against the proliferation of viruses and bacteria and to naturally stimulate natural defenses.
It will also be useful for promoting respiratory comfort in case of congestion or infection.
For well-being, it will be mainly recommended to fight against feelings of fatigue, but also against anxiety, stress, or nervousness by atmospheric diffusion or applied to the solar plexus, previously diluted in a vegetable oil.
Saro essential oil is also interesting for skin beauty. It is particularly recommended for purifying combination to oily skin and fighting against the appearance of imperfections due to its astringent action. Mature skin will appreciate its regenerating benefits to limit the appearance of signs of skin aging. In body care, it helps to reduce scars and stretch marks, alone or in combination with other natural active ingredients.
Organic saro essential oil can be used alone, or in synergy with other essential oils with complementary or similar properties depending on the problems. To promote respiratory comfort and fight more effectively against viruses and bacteria, it can, for example, be combined with essential oils of eucalyptus radiata, Scots pine, lemon, or niaouli.
