Culture & Origin

Compact oregano is a Mediterranean plant. It grows mainly in southern Spain and northern Morocco. This plant was already renowned for its benefits in ancient Greece and Rome, where it was used as a disinfectant for wounds and a preservative for food. During the golden age of Egyptian civilization, wild marjoram was among the useful ingredients for embalming and mummifying the dead. It was also considered sacred and was dedicated to Osiris, the god of fertility and plant growth.

Later, in the 12th century, this plant was found in writings asserting its health benefits. Among others, the "Livre des simples médecines" by the physician Matthaeus Platearius highlighted its virtues against asthma and coughing.

Organic compact oregano essential oil is obtained by distilling the flowering tops of the plant. Approximately 100 kg of plants are needed to obtain 1 to 2 kg of essential oil.

Organic compact oregano essential oil is a powerful anti-infective.
