Essential oil - Organic red mandarin

STRESS & FATIGUE DRY & SENSITIVE SKIN CIRCULATION & SLIMMING

DIGESTION

The citrus reticulata is a small shrub that can reach 6 meters when planted in the ground. In a pot, its height will, however, be limited to approximately 2 meters. The mandarin tree has rather thin, branched branches with small thorns. Its leaves are long and can reach 10 cm in length. The mandarin tree produces very fragrant flowers, which appear in spring and then give the fruits that will be used to make essential oil. These ripen during the autumn, until the end of the year.

  • INCI name: Citrus reticulata peel oil
  • Botanical name: Citrus reticulata blanco
  • Part of the plant extracted: Fresh zest
  • Extraction process: Cold pressing

Culture & Origin

The mandarin tree is the result of a cross with sweet orange and represents 80% of the small citrus fruit market. Sweet and pleasantly fragrant, mandarin easily finds its place on market stalls in winter. Its flesh, the least acidic of citrus fruits, is indeed very tasty and easily combines with many other ingredients.

Originally from the Middle East, mandarin was once mainly cultivated in China, Vietnam or Japan. Its name "mandarin" would thus refer to the silk robes worn by mandarins! Mandarin then arrived in Europe in the 19th century. Organic red mandarin essential oil is obtained by cold pressing the fruit zests. It takes about 100 kg of plants to obtain 800 to 1.2 kg of essential oil.

Health Benefits

  • Like many citrus essential oils, organic mandarin essential oil is primarily renowned for its toning benefits on the digestive system.

It has the particularity of improving intestinal peristalsis and facilitating transit naturally. It is also used to help calm persistent hiccups and has a gentle laxative action. This essential oil also contains limonene, which helps fight nausea and provides gastric comfort in case of digestive issues.

Soothes stress and nervousness :

  • Like sweet orange essential oil, red mandarin essential oil has powerful relaxing properties. Used in diffusion or olfaction, this essential oil has a pleasant and comforting fragrance, which will be ideal for promoting relaxation and falling asleep. It can therefore be recommended to calm anxious states, in cases of anxiety or stress, alone or combined with other relaxing essential oils such as lavender essential oil, for example.

Purifies ambient air and eliminates bad odors :

Fights cellulite and helps firm the skin :

  • While organic red mandarin essential oil has many health benefits, it can also be used as a cosmetic active ingredient! Firming and toning, it will mainly be recommended to help naturally combat cellulite, combined with a balanced diet and a minimum of physical activity. For this use, make sure to dilute it well in a vegetable oil before applying it by massage to the affected areas. Like most citrus essential oils, organic red mandarin essential oil is photosensitizing. Therefore, avoid any sun exposure before and after application!
