Organic True Lavender Essential Oil

STRESS & FATIGUE     DRY & SENSITIVE SKIN     PROBLEMATIC & OILY SKIN

 INSECTICIDE

A small shrub from the Lamiaceae family, lavender can reach 60 cm in height. Lavender flowers are characterized by their purplish-blue corolla-shaped flowers, which release their powerful floral scents, to the delight of bees (and us!).
Lavender loves sunny, rocky, and calcareous soils. It is therefore mainly found in Provence and the Mediterranean region.
Lavender essential oil comes from the flowering tops, which are steam distilled. Lavender cultivated to produce essential oil has optimal yield between the 4th and 6th year after planting. The biochemical composition of lavender essential oil depends on the time the flowers are harvested. Lavender flowering tops can either be cut directly before distillation or dried for about 48 hours before starting oil production.

  • INCI name: Lavandula angustifolia oil
  • Botanical name: Lavandula angustifolia
  • Part of the plant extracted: Flowering tops
  • Extraction method: Steam distillation

Cultivation & Origin

Originally from the Mediterranean basin, lavender was once used as a perfume for linen and baths, especially in Rome during Antiquity. Its medicinal properties were then discovered and encouraged in the 12th century by Hildegard of Bingen. In the 19th century, lavender cultivation continued and spread throughout Europe and to the United States.
In France, lavender is mainly cultivated in Provence, on the Valensole plateau in the Alpes de Haute Provence department. It is widely used to make perfumes and other colognes, particularly in Grasse.
True lavender essential oil can easily be confused with other lavender essential oils. Indeed, in aromatherapy, several types of lavender are found, all having their own compositions and characteristics. True lavender essential oil is thus distinguished from spike lavender essential oil, lavandin, and stoechas lavender, which is rarely used because it is neurotoxic.

Health Properties

Promotes respiratory comfort :

  • True lavender essential oil is renowned for its anticatarrhal and expectorant properties, which make it a very effective essential oil to help naturally restore respiratory comfort. It will therefore be used mainly in diffusion, olfaction, and inhalation in cases of bronchitis, coughs or sinusitis, alone or in combination with other essential oils with complementary properties.

Soothes tension :

  • Thanks to the linalool it contains, true lavender essential oil helps to soothe tensions of all kinds. It will therefore be particularly effective against headaches (in combination with peppermint essential oil for example) when applied directly to the temples, but also to restore muscle comfort, when added to a homemade massage gel or oil.

Calming and soothing :

  • Diffused in the ambient air before bedtime or applied to the wrists or solar plexus, organic true lavender essential oil has powerful calming, soothing and relaxing properties.
Generally well tolerated, it is recommended for adults and children over 7 years old to help calm stress and anxiety, and to promote restful sleep.

Helps to naturally facilitate digestion :

  • Antispasmodic, true lavender essential oil increases the secretion of gastric juice in the stomach. It will therefore be recommended to facilitate digestion, and to help soothe digestive disorders such as bloating, spasms or nausea.

Cosmetic Properties

Fights skin problems :

  • True lavender essential oil has calming properties on the nervous system, but also on the skin!
It is recommended for topical application diluted in a vegetable oil with regenerating and calming properties to soothe itching or inflammation. It will also be recommended in case of acne to facilitate skin healing and contribute to its regeneration.

Calms burns and insect bites :

  • Organic true lavender essential oil will have its place in your suitcase, especially if you go to the sun! Its anti-inflammatory and anesthetic action makes it a natural remedy of choice to help soothe sunburn and itching related to insect bites, applied locally directly to the affected area.

Organic true lavender essential oil to repel lice :

  • Naturally repellent, true lavender essential oil will also be the ally of our little blond heads, especially at the start of the school year!
It will be particularly recommended for prevention to repel lice and to help limit their proliferation, applied to the earlobes or added to daily hair care.

Usage Tips

Organic true lavender essential oil can be used alone, or diluted in a fatty substance or emulsion. It is mainly used in atmospheric diffusion, or in topical application diluted in a vegetable oil.
In cosmetics, it will take care of all skin types, but more particularly sensitive, oily or problem skin due to its anti-inflammatory, soothing and healing properties.
True lavender essential oil will also be recommended for making massage gels, relaxing mist or repellent spray, in combination with other active ingredients and essential oils with complementary properties. Very well tolerated, it can be used pure after a test to check for allergies, due to its high concentration of linalool.
It will combine very well with ylang-ylang, sweet orange or petitgrain essential oils to boost its soothing and calming effects, as well as with rose geranium and Roman chamomile essential oils to facilitate skin regeneration and healing.
