Cultivation & Origin
An endemic plant of the Mediterranean, Italian helichrysum is mainly found in Sardinia, Corsica, Greece and Croatia. It can also be found in the south of France as well as in Portugal and Spain.
Italian helichrysum is cultivated for several reasons: firstly as an ornamental plant, for its essential oil widely used in perfumery and for its aroma similar to curry.
Nicknamed "boxers' oil" due to its circulatory properties, Italian helichrysum essential oil has a very low yield, making it a rare and precious essential oil. It takes one ton of flowers to produce 1L of essential oil, which explains its generally high cost.
Health Properties
Helps prevent edema and bruises:
-
Organic Italian helichrysum essential oil is mainly known for its exceptional circulatory properties. It is indeed the flagship essential oil to use in aromatherapy in case of physical shock. Thanks to its high concentration of ketones, it has a fairly strong anticoagulant action, useful for preventing the appearance of bruises and hematomas, as well as for reducing edema and promoting their elimination. To benefit from its advantages, it should be used on the skin, previously diluted in an essential oil, before applying to the affected areas with light massages, alone or in combination with other oils with similar properties such as wintergreen for example.
Promotes mucus elimination:
-
In cases of respiratory tract congestion, Italian helichrysum essential oil can also help restore well-being thanks to its anti-catarrhal and mucolytic action. For this use, its benefits can be enhanced with other essential oils such as eucalyptus or ravintsara.
Helps reduce nervousness and overcome emotional shocks:
-
Rare and precious, organic Italian helichrysum essential oil is also an essential wellness ally. Its powerful scent is widely used in olfactotherapy, particularly for its action on the psycho-emotional sphere.
Diffused in the air or through olfaction, it is renowned for its wellness properties, helping to overcome emotional shocks, as well as healing wounds that occurred during childhood. It also contains terpene esters, which give it antispasmodic properties useful in helping to combat nervousness and anxiety attacks.
Cosmetic Properties
Facilitates skin healing and regeneration:
-
In cosmetics, Italian helichrysum essential oil cares for all skin types, but more particularly for acne-prone, dry and mature skin.
Its anti-inflammatory properties help to promote skin healing in case of acne breakouts, but also in case of skin problems such as eczema or rosacea.
For this use, it should be used daily at a rate of one to two drops, diluted in a vegetable oil before applying to the affected areas. It can also be incorporated without problems into face masks and moisturizing creams!
Promotes daily circulatory comfort:
-
The circulatory properties of Italian helichrysum essential oil are also very useful in helping to combat the appearance of water retention and the sensation of heavy legs. It contains monoterpenes, which facilitate the drainage of toxins accumulated in the body. It will therefore be particularly recommended in cases of stretch marks, or as a complementary treatment against varicose veins to restore comfort and boost skin suppleness and elasticity.
Prevents the appearance of signs of skin aging:
-
In facial care, Italian helichrysum essential oil is also the ally of mature skin. Its healing, draining and regenerating properties facilitate cell renewal, and help combat the signs of aging. It can therefore be combined with vegetable oils rich in fatty acids such as argan oil, for example, and with other cosmetic essential oils such as those of Ho wood, cistus or rose geranium.
Usage Tips
A rare and precious essential oil, Italian helichrysum essential oil is well known for its circulatory benefits, useful in cases of shocks, bruises, ecchymoses or hematomas.
In cosmetics, its many properties coupled with its pleasant and relaxing scent make it a very pleasant essential oil to use and, above all, very effective in caring for dry, acne-prone and mature skin.
In body care, it is mainly recommended to help restore comfort in cases of heavy leg sensation, but also to prevent the appearance of cellulite or stretch marks. It also promotes the disappearance of redness on the face.
Its olfactory power is also very interesting for well-being. It has the ability to help overcome emotional shocks and naturally combat stress, anxiety and panic attacks thanks to its antispasmodic virtues.
Organic Italian helichrysum essential oil can be used alone, or in combination with other essential oils to reinforce or complement its various properties. For example, it pairs wonderfully with lemon, peppermint or cypress essential oils to promote circulatory and lymphatic comfort. On the skin, it can be complemented with rose geranium, rosewood or true lavender essential oils.
